Facilities

The padel courts are now completely finished and ready to be booked!

Courts can be booked via Matchi and memberships can be arranged on there too.

As the club does not have a Reception, we have installed a locker system to rent out rackets and sell balls.  Padel rackets can be hired at a cost of £2.50 per racket and balls can be purchased at a cost of £5 per tube.  Please email administration@bsltc.co.uk at least 48 hours in advance to arrange.

Padel Rules

  • Court Dimensions: The padel court is 10 meters wide and 20 meters long, surrounded by walls that are part of the game.
  • Net Height: The net in the middle of the court is 88 cm high at the center and 92 cm at the ends.
  • Equipment: Players use solid padel rackets with no strings and low-compression tennis balls.
  • Serve: The serve must be underhand. The server must stand behind the service line and bounce the ball before hitting it diagonally into the opponent’s service box. The ball must land in the opponent’s service box and may hit the glass wall but not the metal fence.
  • Return: The returner can hit the ball after one bounce or directly from the wall (volley). The ball must bounce within the boundaries of the opponent’s court.
  • Rallies: After the serve, the ball can hit any wall on the opponent’s side as long as it bounces on the ground first. Players can use the walls to return the ball to the opponent’s side.
  • Scoring: Points are scored in the same way as tennis: 15, 30, 40, and game. A team needs to win six games to win a set, and matches are typically best of three sets.

Padel scoring is straightforward and follows the same format as tennis.

Points

  • 15: First point won.
  • 30: Second point won.
  • 40: Third point won.
  • Game: Fourth point won, provided the team has a two-point lead.

If both teams reach 40 (deuce), a team must win two consecutive points to win the game.

  • Game: A game is won by the first team to win four points, with at least a two-point lead.
  • Set: A set is won by the first team to win six games, with at least a two-game lead. If the score reaches 5-5, the set continues until one team wins by two games or a tie-break is played at 6-6.
  • Match: Matches are usually best of three sets. The first team to win two sets wins the match.
  • If the set reaches 6-6, a tie-break game is played. Teams alternate serves every two points, and the first team to reach seven points with a two-point lead wins the set.
  • Let: If the serve hits the net and lands in the correct service box, it is called a let, and the serve is retaken.
  • Faults: A fault occurs if the serve does not land in the correct service box or hits the net. Two consecutive faults result in the opponent winning the point.
  • Out of Bounds: The ball is out if it bounces outside the court boundaries or hits the metal fence directly (without bouncing).
